Font change on Twitter: why “Chirp” was introduced

What changes has Twitter made?

Twitter rolled out a new policy on Wednesday.

Earlier in the year, news circulated that Twitter was planning to change its font to a custom typeface called Chirp, after the company used fonts like SF Pro, Roboto, and Helvetica Neue.

According to Technological crisis, the goal with Chirp was to offer a crisp, legible typeface for everyday use, but also a font that would allow for more personality, even when set in motion or used for brand advertising.

The Chirp font first appeared in May on macOS, and the change to the rest of the social media website has happened now.

“Chirp finds the balance between clutter and sharpness to amplify the pleasure and irreverence of a Tweet, but can also carry the weight of seriousness when necessary” Twitter said in a blog post.

According to Twitter, one of the main advantages of Chirp is the way it can align the text of tweets written in Western languages ​​on the left side of the interface.

The company says it’s something that should make the content easier to read as you scroll through your timeline.

It’s also promising to roll out new colors and other design features soon.

What was the reaction?

The reaction has been mixed, with some people complaining that Chirp is harder to read.

“PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let us change the font back,” a Twitter user said. “It’s incredibly difficult for me to read with, and it physically hurts to watch it.”

Another said, “Looks like the letters are rocking, I hate that.”

Others said the new police gave them headaches.

“The new Twitter font has cured my addiction to this bird app because I can’t scroll without having a headache now,” one user wrote.
