DRIVER ALERT! City teams are busy at night from Wednesday to Saturday

Yakima Town crews are busy with a gas line installation project that will impact traffic on a section of South 1st Street overnight for the remainder of the week.

Drivers can expect nighttime closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

A press release from the city says Brothers Construction must cross South 1st Street at Ranchrite Road (just south of Nob Hill Boulevard) to install an 8-inch high pressure gas line for Cascade Natural Gas. Due to the construction, the Ranchrite Road section of South 1st Street will be in place during night shift hours from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Wednesday, October 20. Night work and closures will continue on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, from October 21 to 23.

City officials ask drivers to slow down when they see roadworks

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit in all traffic-related work zones in Yakima City is 20 miles per hour. During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur. Drivers must use alternate routes until the project is complete.
Access to homes and businesses in the project area will be maintained as much as possible.
As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily depending on weather conditions, equipment failures and emergencies.
For more information on this project, contact Street Inspector Dan Riddle at 576-6464.
